Privacy notice
Last updated . This explains what personal information Shop By Agent collects, why, and your rights under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
Shop By Agent (shopbyagent.online) is a directory of AI shopping agents and agentic commerce tools, run from South Africa. We are the responsible party for the information described here. Our information officer can be reached at hello@shopbyagent.online.
What we collect
- Daily email signups: your email address, the date you signed up, which form you used, and whether you have confirmed.
- Submissions: what you type into the submit form, including your email if you give it.
- Emails you send us: your address and what you write.
- Technical data: like any website, our server sees your IP address and browser details. We use them briefly to keep the site running and to limit spam, and do not use them to identify you.
Cookies
We do not set cookies or use analytics trackers at the moment. If we add analytics, we will update this notice first. Saved tools are kept only in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to us.
Why we use it
- To send the daily email you asked for, with your consent. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- To review and publish listings, and reply to you.
- To keep the site secure and working, which is in our legitimate interest.
We do not sell your personal information or share it for others' marketing.
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that help us run the site: our hosting provider and, once the daily email starts sending, an email delivery provider. They may store data outside South Africa, and we only use providers that protect it to a standard comparable to POPIA.
Double opt-in
When you sign up, we send a confirmation email before you get the daily issue. If you do not confirm, we will not email you again and will delete the address after 60 days.
How long we keep it
Your email stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Submissions are kept while they are useful for the directory. Technical logs are kept for a short time and then deleted.
Your rights
Under POPIA you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and withdraw consent. Email hello@shopbyagent.online and we will respond within 30 days. Every daily email will include an unsubscribe link.
If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Security
We keep personal information on a secured server, limit who can access it, and do not expose subscriber lists through the website.
Children
The site is for businesses and adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Changes
If we change this notice, we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the daily email.
